Lichen was born in collaboration with the Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio. We set out to design a collection based on the idea that fragrance crosses three areas, “perfume for wearing on the body, incense for suffusing space, and candles for lighting effects”. Development did not pursue scent alone, but we rethought links between smell, space and people.
Creation was inspired by lichen, a plant that flourishes through adapting to soil and climate conditions. Our fragrance is structured to actively intertwine with its surroundings, and so generate new, harmonious relationships.
Base is the name of Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio’s core philosophical scent. From this we have expanded a series of variations. Mixing was carried out rigorously so as to produce eight fundamental variations. Each is composed with meticulously selected natural ingredients.
Our collaboration with Mame Kurogochi also stemmed from this project.
